While both blood and urine pregnancy tests detect the same pregnancy hormone (hCG), they’re used in different situations.

At Crossroads Care Center, we offer no-cost pregnancy testing and limited ultrasounds to help you get answers about your pregnancy.

Urine Pregnancy Tests

Urine tests are the most common type of pregnancy test. They are designed with a reactive strip that detects hCG in your urine. As long as it’s not expired or taken too early after conception, most urine-based pregnancy tests are highly accurate.

We offer free pregnancy testing at our center and can help you determine the best time to take it, usually the day after your missed period or later if your period is irregular.

Blood Pregnancy Tests

Blood tests also detect hCG, but they are performed by a healthcare provider performs them. Because they can measure lower hormone levels, they may detect pregnancy earlier than a urine test.

A blood test is typically ordered when a healthcare provider needs more information about a pregnancy or is monitoring a possible complication.

What if My Pregnancy Test Comes Back Positive?

A positive pregnancy test confirms the presence of hCG, but it doesn’t tell you everything about your pregnancy. An ultrasound can determine how far along you are, whether the pregnancy is located in the uterus, and whether the pregnancy is progressing.

This is essential for making an informed decision because an ultrasound can identify critical conditions, such as an ectopic pregnancy, and help you understand your procedure eligibilitywhat procedures you are eligible for.

While we do not perform or refer abortions, we do provide factual, medical-based information about abortion procedures, side effects, and potential physical and emotional risks.

We offer no-cost pregnancy testing, limited obstetrical ultrasounds, and confidential appointments so you can protect your health and be armed with as much information as possible about your pregnancy. Contact us today.
