Have You Taken a Pregnancy Test?

Your first step to determine if you’re pregnant is to take a pregnancy test. We offer free and confidential urine pregnancy testing. One of our registered nurses will walk you through the process so you can be confident you’re getting accurate results.

How Do Pregnancy Tests Work?

When a woman becomes pregnant, her body produces a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). This hormone builds rapidly, eventually entering her urine and bloodstream. A positive test result means the hCG hormone has been detected in your urine, and you are most likely pregnant.

When Should I Take a Pregnancy Test?

Experts recommend waiting until after your missed period before testing. Your body needs time to build up a detectable level of the hCG hormone.

Can I Take a Home Pregnancy Test?

Home pregnancy tests are reliable, but some tests are more sensitive than others. The Cleveland Clinic suggests the following steps to ensure you don’t get a false positive or negative result:

  • Check the expiration date.
  • Read the instructions thoroughly before you begin.
  • Wait until a day or two after your missed period before taking the test.
  • Take the test in the morning when your urine is the most concentrated.
  • Check the results after the recommended amount of time.
  • Retest to confirm the results of the first test.

What if My Pregnancy Test Comes Back Positive?

A pregnancy test only indicates the possibility of pregnancy. Your next step will be to have a limited obstetric ultrasound. Although some restrictions apply, most of our clients are eligible for a free ultrasound if their pregnancy test is positive.

All patients who receive positive pregnancy tests receive an official Verification of Positive Pregnancy Test form. This form is required by most insurance providers and other services offered by local and state government programs.
